On October 21, 2023, the Collaborative Research Center SFB 1540 "Exploring Brain Mechanics" (EBM) participated in the Long Night of the Sciences in the Erlangen, Fürth, and Nürnberg region. In a captivating presentation, EBM opened its doors to the interested public, providing insights into various facets of its research. The event spanned across five locations.

On the 12th of October, EBM Researchers were brought to the knowledge of the “Good Scientific Practice“ by Dr. Christian Schmitt-Engel who held a lecture on the topic at the Interdisciplinary Center for Nanostructured Films (IZNF).

The 1st EBM Retreat took place from September 21st to 22nd, 2023 at the Hotel Arvena Reichsstadt in the small historic town of Bad Windsheim and provided a platform for scientific presentations primarily from doctoral researchers and postdoctoral researchers of the CRC 1540 "Exploring Brain Mechanics." The main objective of this conference was to present the current status of the 19 ongoing research projects and stimulate lively and constructive discussions to strengthen and further develop collaboration between various research projects.

As part of the graduate program, the EBM researchers had the opportunity to gain hands on experience on the autopsy of the human brain. The monthly Doctoral Researcher Seminar was held on the 20th of July, with Sonja Kuth (X03) taking on the role of the host. The seminar proved to be an insightful and engaging event, with a focus on engineering hydrogels to mimic brain-tissue-like matrices.

EBM was proud to be a part of the prestigious 93rd Annual Meeting of GAMM held in Dresden, Germany from May 29 to June 2, 2023. Our co-spokesperson, Prof. Silvia Budday, captivated the audience with her invited lecture on 'Novel Modelling Approaches in Structural Stability' at the Young Researchers' Minisymposia.
